Our Educational Approach

How We Support Your Child’s Development

Learning Through Play

At Peter Pan Preschool, Petersfield, we believe that children learn best when they’re engaged, curious, and having fun. Our play-based learning approach encourages natural development whilst building the foundations for future academic success.

Social and Emotional Growth

We help children develop confidence, self-esteem, and positive relationships with others. Through group activities and individual attention, children learn to express their feelings, resolve conflicts, and build empathy for their peers.

Communication and Language

Our rich language environment supports vocabulary development, listening skills, and early literacy. We read stories together, sing songs, and encourage children to express their ideas through conversation and creative activities.

Physical Development

We develop both fine and gross motor skills through carefully planned activities. From threading beads to outdoor play, we ensure children develop the physical skills they need for writing, sports, and daily life.

Creative Expression

Art, music, and imaginative play feature prominently in our daily routine. Through hands-on activities, children explore different materials, express their creativity, and develop problem-solving skills.

Mathematical Understanding

We introduce early mathematical concepts through practical activities such as counting, sorting, pattern recognition, and shape recognition, laying strong foundations for future learning.

Supporting Your Child’s Transition

From Home to Preschool

Starting preschool can feel like a big step for both children and parents. Our experienced team has supported hundreds of Petersfield families through this important transition, and we’re here to make the process as smooth as possible for your family.

Our Settling-In Process

Pre-Start Visits

Before your child’s first day, we arrange visits during which they can explore the setting while you’re present, helping them become familiar with our environment and staff

Gradual Introduction

We work with you to create a settling-in schedule that suits your child’s temperament. Some children are ready for full sessions immediately, whilst others benefit from shorter initial visits that gradually extend.

Key Person System

Each child is assigned a key person who takes special responsibility for their care and development. This qualified practitioner builds a close relationship with your child and serves as your main point of contact.

Regular Communication

We maintain daily communication through verbal feedback, written observations, and learning journals that track your child’s progress and development.

Preparing for School

As children approach school age, we work closely with local primary schools in Petersfield to ensure a smooth transition. Our school readiness programme focuses on independence skills, following instructions, and social confidence that will serve them well in their reception year.
